Introductory Instrumental Courses

Learning to play an instrument for the first time is a big step for many children, and it is often the first time a child will have had any formal musical education.

Having the opportunity to experience what it is like to learning their favourite instrument alongside new friends in an environment that will nurture their love of music is a fantastic place to start.  The Introductory instrumental courses at Hope Performing Arts Centre are designed to give your child that Joyful first experience on an instrument that will have them wanting to learn even more.

Frequently Asked Questions

Your child will develop ensemble skills and confidence playing with and for others as they make music together with their new friends.  

How long is each course?

Each introductory instrumental course runs for 5 weeks, and includes one 45 minute group class a week.

How many children are in each class?

There are a maximum of 5 children in each course.  Once we reach this limit we close the course to future enrolments

Does my child need an instrument ?

Instruments are provided for use during lessons.  Children who have their own instrument at home do gain more out of the course as they are able to review the skills taught in lesson as well as having the opportunity to explore the instrument on their own.

My child has never has music or instrumental lessons in the past, is this course suitable for them?

Yes the introductory instrumental courses are designed to be a child's first experience of an instrument.  they provide a great foundation that will give your child the skills and confidence to take on future instrumental lesson.

My child has had instrumental lessons before, can they attend this course?

The introductory instrumental courses are most suitable for students just starting out on an instrument.  If your child has had lessons in the past and you are interested in them learning at Hope Performing Arts Centre, please contact the director Emma Collyer at emmacollyer@hopeperformingartscentre.com.au for more information about what may be most suitable for your child.

How much is an introductory instrumental course?

The introductory instrumental course come complete with all lesson material.  The cost of the course is $100.

Do you accept the creative kids voucher

Yes, the Creative Kids Vouchers are accepted at Hope Performing Arts Centre.

Emma Collyer has extensive experience teaching young children the piano.  She is passionate about helping each child discover their musical potential

Emma has performed in church bands since the age of 12 and has also written music which has been performed by the University of Newcastle Conservatorium Orchestra and Wind Orchestra.  Her experiences as a musician, high school music educator and composer have been key in the creation of the Introductory Instrumental Courses.  She wanted to ensure that each program is educationally sound while at the same time inspire children to explore their creativity.

John Collyer is the current head of Creative Arts at St George Christian School and has had many years of impressive results with his HSC Students

John had an early performing career which included touring Japan and Regional NSW before settling down to have a family.  He loves to impart his knowledge of music and instrumental playing to his students and to encourage them to desire more out of themselves and the music they are playing.

Mr Daniel Tomalaris

Daniel currently writes, records and performs around Sydney, singing and playing guitar in a three piece band called "St Joan".

Daniel loves to encourage his student to perform and express their artistic side.  His students are often playing duets together and impromptu improvisations are a feature of many of his classes.  His love for music has encouraged many of his students to take he bold step of performing in front of others and in doing so they have become more confident as guitarists and in themselves.

Miss Mirabel Collyer

Singing Tutor

Mirabel has always loved singing, performing her first vocal solo at her school at the age of 10.  She has progressed through her AMEB Singing exams with honours.  Currently Mirabel sings regularly in her church band at St Luke's Anglican Church in Liverpool.

Mirabel has been teaching young children for many years and is passionate about safe vocal practices for young voices.  She understands that each voice is unique and develops at its own pace and how to help children to be confident and comfortable with their own voice.

Upon receipt of the form above,  your child's spot be be reserved for 48 hours in your chosen course.   Your child's spot will be secured once payment is received for the course.   An email will be sent to you with payment options.  please keep an eye out for this email.  If you do not receive an email with in 24 hours please contact Emma at emmacollyer@hopeperformingartscentre.com.au
